Stanford Milton Johns, 85

DOVER - Stanford Milton Johns, 85, departed this life at the Hospice Center, Milford. He was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Smyrna, son of the late Charles Coleman and Daisy Gibbs. Stanford worked hard all of his life. He was with Lepores Liquors for 19 years. He was a general handyman who was quick to help out wherever he saw a need. He is a member of Union Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R.G. Moore, Jr. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ella Hawkins Johns; two sons, William L. Johns, and Joseph H. Johns; and three daughters, Elimar Johns, Edna Johns, and Anna Mae Johns. He is survived by 12 children, Stanford Demby, John and his wife Flora Johns, Jeraline Heath and her husband Reginald Heath, Albert and wife Wanda Johns, Charles Johns, Mark Johns, Philemon Johns, Ella R. Johns, Dillard Mosely, Audrey Johns, Darlene Johns, and Daisey Johns; daughters-in-law, Sue Johns, Elizabeth Baker, and Betty Johns; sons-in-law, Raymond Summers and Harry Morton III; sisters-in-law, Elsie Taylor and Martha Briddle; 54 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren, 30 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 24, at Union Baptist Church, 883 Lincoln St., Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Dover.
