Smsgt Arthur Washington Sr.

DOVER - Smsgt. Arthur (Wash) Washington, Sr., transitioned to the gates of heaven on Apr. 15, 2017, on Easter Saturday at his home, after battling an acute illness.
Mr. Washington is a direct descendant of Booker T. Washington. He served 27 years in the United States Air Force and is a Tuskegee Airmen. He fought in WWII, the Korean War, and server two tours of duty in Vietnam. He received multiple medals of Honor, which includes two bronze stars. After retiring from the military he became the materials and handling teacher at Kent Votech. He also taught at Ferris and later implemented and taught the GED program for the Dept. of Correction in Smyrna.
Mr. Washington was preceeded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn (Gwen) Washington, of 42 years. He leaves to cherish his memories two daughters, Renee Washington, of Dover; Dayna Moore, of Wilmington; and one son, Arthur (Skip) Washington, Jr., of Chester, Pa.
Funeral services will be held on Apr. 28, 2017, at 11 a.m., at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W. Division St., Dover, DE 19904; with visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be sent to Disabled Veterans and the American Cancer Society.
