Sidney Robert Smith, 78
DOVER - Sidney Robert Smith, husband of Christine P. Smith, of Dover, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday Jan. 5, 2021, at Bayhealth Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 20, 1942 in Smyrna, Del., the son of the late Shanley Smith and Sadie Houk. After graduating from high school in 1960 he served in the United States Navy for six years. Upon returning he began a 30 year career at American Mirex. Sidney and his son Steve opened Smith's Bait Shop in Leipsic, spent most of his retired years. A few of his favorite hobbies included tending to his garden, endlessly working on home projects, and bird watching with the family dog Molly.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by brothers, Shanley (Buddy) Smith, Dickie McNabb, Delancey (Buddy) Pryor, and Norris Eddington.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 55 years, Christine P. Smith of Walhalla, S.C.; sons, Steven Smith and his wife Debby of Dover, Kelvin Smith of Magnolia; daughters, Cheryl Omans of Dover, Katie Smith Kelly and her husband Chuck of Cambridge, Md., Kristie Parker and husband Trey of Georgetown, Del.; brothers, Kenneth Smith of Milford, William (Billy) Smith of Leipsic; sisters, Bessie Hession of Smyrna, Maryann Couture of Camden, Doris Kessinger of Dover; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, Jan. 15, 2021 at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street Dover, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for friends and Private family service 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and a 2 p.m. Veterans Service will be at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, Del. In consideration of protecting the family and friends health, public health guidelines enacted for the prevention of the spread of covid-19 virus, limitations on gatherings, physical distancing, use of hand sanitation and masks are in place.
