LAUREL — A 23-year-old man died from injuries suffered in a shooting incident on Monday, Delaware State Police said.

Authorities said that at approximately 1:22 a.m., the Laurel Police Department and Delaware State Police responded to a large crowd with shots fired at Little Creek Apartments. When officers arrived on the scene, they found the man behind the 400-building suffering from gunshot wounds, police said.

The man was taken to an area hospital where he died. Police identified him as Jahyeim Davis ib Tuesday.

Police said a 26-year-old man, later responded to an area hospital with a gunshot wound where he was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Laurel Police Department requested the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit to take over the investigation due to its nature, police said.

According to a preliminary investigation, an unknown suspect or suspects fired multiple shots where the crowd had gathered hitting the two men, several cars, and buildings, police said.
