Shirley R. Gum, 71

BETHANY BEACH - Shirley R. Gum, of Bethany Beach, formerly of Pasadena, Md., passed away Monday, May 26, 2008, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 71.

She was born in Norton, Va., daughter of the late Ray and Mae Andrikin.

She worked in quality control for the electronic systems division at Northrop-Grumman, Baltimore, retiring in 1997 after 37 years of service.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Steven Snodgrass, in 2004.

She is survived by her loving husband of 11 years, William R. "Bill" Gum; her daughters, Scarlett Snodgrass of Ocean View, Melody Edwards of Baltimore and Constance Shifflett of Pasadena; a stepdaughter, Susan Widener and her husband Harry of Columbia, Pa.; stepsons, William R. Gum and his wife Lonnie of Manheim, Pa., and Joseph W. Gum and his companion Sharon of Harwood, Md.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her grandchildren, Noelle Crawford and Stephen Snodgrass, both of Ocean View.

A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Bethany Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, West Avenue, Ocean View, where friends may call Friday evening from 6 to 8 and Saturday morning after 9:30.

Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Dagsboro.
