CHESTERTOWN - Shirley June Maslin Spry of Chestertown died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, in Chester River Hospital Center, Chestertown. She was 84.
Mrs. Spry was born June 11, 1922, in Chestertown, daughter of the late Wallace Miller and Margaret Angeline Lingerfelt Maslin.
She was a 1939 graduate of Chestertown High School.
Mrs. Spry married John Benjamin Spry Jr. on June 14, 1940. They made their home in Chestertown.
She worked in the office for Home Beneficial Life Insurance Co. for 25 years before retirement.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Benjamin Spry Jr. Nov. 6, 2002; and a daughter, Benita Hyland in 2001. Mrs. Spry was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing cards.
She is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, John B. III and Julia Spry of Chestertown, and Bob and Meri Spry of Fredericksburg, Va.; two daughters and a son-in-law: Linda Faye Miller of Dover, Del. and Mary June and Bill Beals of Chestertown; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will follow in Crumpton Cemetery.
Grandchildren will be serving as pallbearers.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 296, Chestertown, MD 21620; or Kent & Queen Anne's Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 126, Chestertown, MD 21620.
