Shirley Jarrell

MAGNOLIA - Shirley Jarrell passed away, Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford.
Mrs. Jarrell was born Feb. 7, 1936 in Charleston, W.Va. to the late Loris Huddleston and Eva Huddleston.
She was a teacher for 36 years, 32 of which were in the Caesar Rodney School District. Mrs. Jarrell served as Mayor of Magnolia for seven years. Mrs. Jarrell enjoyed restoring her dream home, the John B. Lindale mansion, which was featured in the August 1983 issue of National Geographic and several books. She was the Delaware Alternate for NASA's Teacher In Space Program, a member of the Delaware State Federation of Women's Club, a member of the National Teacher's Hall of Fame, listed in Who's Who In American Education, and a volunteer for Junior Achievement of Delaware.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Eva June Watkins-Bull.
She is survived by her son, D. R. Jarrell and daughter-in-law Stefine Pitzer-Jarrell of Bridgeville.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
