Seaford man charged with sixth offense DUI

LAUREL — A 64-year-old Seaford man was arrested on a sixth offense DUI charged following a traffic incident Wednesday, Delaware State Police said.

Police said that at approximately 2:48 p.m., troopers responded to the intersection of Sussex Highway and Chipmans Lane for a reported hit-and-run crash. Upon arrival, troopers discovered that a Black male, later identified as Graylon Nichols, had fled the scene in a Chevrolet Silverado with an undisclosed Delaware registration, police said.

Police said investigation determined that Nichols failed to maintain his lane while driving southbound on Sussex Highway, causing him to strike two road signs after exiting the east edge of the roadway near Chipmans Road. His vehicle then crashed into a Jeep Comanche in the median, which was preparing to cross northbound traffic on Sussex Highway, police said. The driver of the Jeep Comanche, a 65-year-old Laurel woman, sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash, police said.

Police said Nichols was located during a traffic stop on Concord Road. A trooper noticed signs of impairment and police said he refused to take Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, police said.

Nichols was taken into custody and charged with the DUI offense, second-degree vehicular assault and numerous traffic-related charges. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $6,303 cash bond.
