Sarah Owens Satterfield, 87

DOVER - Sarah Owens Satterfield of Dover died Saturday, March 3, 2007, in her home. She was 87.

Mrs. Satterfield was born Oct. 4, 1919, in Wilson, N.C.

Prior to the birth of her children, she worked for the Diamond State Telephone Co. She then worked for the Capital School District for 30 years, as a library aide at South Dover Elementary School.

Mrs. Satterfield was a member of People"s United Church of Christ, the Dover Business and Professional Women"s Association, and American Business Women of America, who in 1984 named her Woman of the Year. She was a member of the Victory Chapter No. 15, Order of the Eastern Star, since 1985, and served as Worthy Matron in 1990.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Satterfield, whom she had met while he was in the U.S. Army during World War II and married in November 1946, in August, 2006; a daughter, Bobbi Satterfield, in 1987; a brother, Joseph Owens; three sisters, Elizabeth Wall, Lydia Boone and Mamie Jolly; a niece, Jo-Ann Hollingsworth; and a nephew, W.B. Jolly Jr.

She is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Joseph O. and Katie Satterfield of Kenna, W.Va., and Bill and Susan Satterfield of Salisbury, Md.; and a niece, Lydia George of Oregon.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in People"s United Church of Christ, 46 S. Bradford St., Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Victory Chapter 15, Order of the Eastern Star, 1478 Wyoming Mill Road, Dover, DE 19904, to support its numerous charitable projects.
