Sally Duanne (Bland) Thompson passed peacefully on December 15, 2022 in Dover, DE.
She was born March 10, 1935 in Piedmont, WV to the late Roy and Elsie (Slaughter) Bland and she grew up in Luke, MD.
Sally graduated from Bruce High School in Westernport, MD and from Frostburg State Teachers College (MD). While attending Frostburg, she met her husband of 48 years, Charles A. Thompson of Frostburg, MD; they were married in 1957.
She spent her entire professional career as a teacher, in various roles and capacities, for the Prince George's County (MD) Public School System. Following her retirement and the death of her husband, Sally relocated to Magnolia, DE where she lived for the past 16 years.
Sally loved the company of her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling extensively. She was a cutthroat card player and enjoyed playing the slots with her friends. An avid reader, Sally always had a book or two at her side and would always tell you about what she was reading. She especially enjoyed being outdoors in her backyard. She had numerous bird feeders and planting beds and would spend hours watching and listening to wildlife.
In addition to her late parents and husband; she was preceded in death by her brothers, Leroy Bland and Don Allen (DA) Bland. She is survived by her sons, Charles Jr. of Gambrills, MD, Kevin (Stephanie) of Camden, DE and David of Ridgely, MD; and her daughter, Kathy of Ridgely, MD. Sally was particularly proud of her two grandsons, Nick (Wasu) and Jack. She is also survived by her in-laws, John and Carol Dinning of Mt. Savage, MD and Carol Bland of Swanton, MD; as well as numerous nieces and a nephew.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, DE at noon. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Caroline Center, Inc., Ridgely, MD.
