Sadie Madaline (Postles) Green, 93

FELTON - Sadie Madaline (Postles) Green, of Felton, was born on May 23, 1914, to the late Wateman and Clara (Smith) Postles. She went home to glory on Friday, Feb. 22, 2008. She was 93.

Sadie's brothers, Roland, Earl, Arvil and William Postles, and her sisters, Blanche Waters and Ola Tildon, all preceded her in death.

She spent most of her early life in Delaware. She attended the Reeves Crossing Elementary School, where her grandmother was the teacher.

Later, Sadie moved to Philadelphia. There she met and married her late husband, George Green of Virginia. Two children were born from their union.

While living in Philadelphia, she was a member of the Mount Hebron Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Calvin Louis Jones Jr. She lent her melodic alto voice to the magnificent senior choir and she was also an usher.

Sadie lived near and enjoyed the company of her cousins and other family members that had also moved to the Chester, Darby and Philadelphia areas of Pennsylvania.

After the death of her husband, she returned to Felton and worked at the chicken factories there and in Milford before her retirement.

Sadie continued to live among her family members. They shared hundreds of wonderful memories with Mother Green.

She was a great homemaker, excellent cook and wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, extended family member and friend.

Sadie was a beautiful, petite and gifted woman. She was a tiny lady but she was a giant warrior for her Creator.

She loved the Lord. She stayed close to Him through attending her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens.

Sadie never failed to speak or sing of the goodness of the Lord. While her son went off to war, she trusted Him to bring her baby back to her alive and well. She never failed to count her many blessings.

Most of her life was spent enjoying her family and friends. They went to church together, enjoyed family gatherings, many birthday celebrations, weddings and trips with those she lived and church members.

Sadie continued to visit the Senior Center in Harrington until her health no longer allowed her to.

She spoke with a typical Delawarean accent all of her days.

Sadie imparted much wisdom to several generations of her own and other family members' offspring.

Her children and their families were her pride and joy. She was a great comfort to various relatives' children. She was the last female family member from her generation for many of her nieces, nephews, cousin's children, in-laws and friends. Most of them knew her as Aunt Sadie.

Sadie served under many pastors during her tenure at St. James, now St. James Union Church. She loved marching down the aisle to celebrate choir anniversaries. She was a member of the missionary society, stewardess board and senior choir.

She always had a great subject to talk about during Black History Month and enjoyed dressing in her 1700s outfits. She was famous for her wit, humor, homemade ice cream, chicken and dumplings, and especially her coconut cakes.

Remaining to celebrate her life and legacy are her loving daughter, Phyllis Harley of Philadelphia; her devoted son, George Green of Felton; three adored grandsons, Edward Harley Jr. and his wife Charlene of Philadelphia, George Green III of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Kranze Green of Los Angeles; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, to include a special nephew, Ralph Tildon of Herndon, Va., and two special nieces, Lenore Pernsley of Conshohocken, Pa., and Rochelle Postles of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a host of other loved ones, her church family and many friends.

Funeral services will be at noon on Saturday at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may also call two hours prior to the service.

Interment will be in the St. James Union A.M.E. Church cemetery, 4297 Andrews Lake Road, Frederica.
