Ruth Sowell

Ruth Sowell, 80

DOVER - Ruth Sowell of Dover died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, in Silver Lake Center, Dover. She was 80.

Mrs. Sowell was born Jan. 30, 1927, in Dover, to the late Return and Ola (Beckett) Carney.

She was a homemaker and loved to go to the casino and play cards with her sisters.

Mrs. Sowell was a member of the Immanual Union United Methodist Church in Cheswold, and in her earlier years sang in the church choir.

Her enjoyment was being with her friends and family for gatherings and social events.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Sowell Jr., in 1990; two brothers, James and Garland Carney; and her brother-in-law, Ernest Seeney Jr.

Mrs. Sowell is survived by two brothers, Leroy Carney and his wife, Annabell Carney of Smyrna, and Willis Carney and his wife, Anita of Dover; five sisters, Mary Etta Carter and Cordelia Rochford, both of Dover, Betty Jane Seeney of Clayton, Shirley Seeney and her husband, Donald of Dover, and Gloria Attix and her husband, Donald of Smyrna; her sister-in-law, Eleanor Carney; a special niece, Ruth Ridgeway; her godson, Norman Carney, all of Dover; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Immanual Union U.M Church, 756 Main St., Cheswold, where friends may call one hour prior.

Interment will be at the church cemetery.
