Ruth Miriam Freece Detwiler, 82
LINCOLN - Ruth Miriam Freece Detwiler passed away in her home on March 27, 2007, after a lengthy illness. She was 82.
She was born on Feb. 16, 1925, in Phoenixville, Pa., daughter of the late Thomas Franklin and Kathryn Miriam Bradley Freece.
She attended Phoenixville public schools graduating from Phoenixville High School in 1942.
She attended Barbizon Modeling and Finishing School in Philadelphia. She enjoyed modeling jobs in the Philadelphia area, but her favorite memory was a role in the movie, "Bright Victory," filmed at the Valley Forge Army Hospital and vicinity.
Later Ruth attended business schools in the Philadelphia area for her job with Phoenixville Trust Co., which later became Industrial Valley Bank and Trust.
She left banking to become office manager and then assistant to the president of Clover Lamp Co. where she remained almost 30 years until the company closed.
She was a member for many years of Grace Lutheran and Freedom Lutheran Churches in Royersford, Pa.
Ruth retired fulltime to Lincoln to a summer home where she has lived for the last 15 years near her family. She enjoyed sharing activities with her family and her feline companions.
Ruth was an antiques collector and at one time had two shops, one in Spring City and one in Collegeville, Pa.
She was an avid and championship bowler. She won tournaments in Pennsylvania and New York. She also loved music and loved to dance.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, James Gotwals Detwiler III; and a brother, William Thomas Freece.
She is survived by five children, Linda Cooper Duncan and husband, Robert of Wyoming, Karl E. Buckwalter and wife, Elizabeth of Dover, James G. Detwiler IV and friend, Sherry Yosko of Lincoln, and Pennsylvania, Gwendolyn Detwiler Marks and husband, Kim of Shelby, N.C., and Holly Detwiler Ibach and husband, Michael of Lincoln; a brother, Thomas Freece of Audubon, Pa.; a sister, Ann Freece Bowers of Charlotte, N.C.; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are welcome to call today from 6-8 p.m. at the home of Holly and Michael Ibach, 8950 Detwiler Drive, Lincoln, DE 19960.
Funeral arrangements were by Pippin Funeral Home of Wyoming. Memorial service and burial will be in Collegeville, Pa.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to either Delaware Hospice, 600 DuPont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947; her favorite charity, St. Judes Childrens' Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929; or prayerful consideration in the church of your choice.
