Ruth Helen Ames Tunnell, 84

FRANKFORD - Ruth Helen Ames Tunnell, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, in Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. She was 84. Born Jan. 11, 1924 in Birdsnest, Va., she was the daughter of the late Walter Ames and Mary Smith Ames. Her husband, Daniel James Tunnell, has preceded her in death. She was a member of Union Wesley United Methodist Church in Clarksville and served as a member of the Community Gospel Chorus. For many years, she was employed at Buntings Nursery in Williamsville. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, Issac Daniel, Sonny Boy, and James Thomas; and one stepson, William Curtis Tunnell. Fond memories will be cherished by two sons, Lewis (Laura) Curtis, and David Lee Tunnell, all of Frankford; three daughters, Mary Louise (Eugene) Mumford, and Bettie Y. Walters, all of Frankford, and Janie Mae (Richard Sr.) Miller, of Rehoboth Beach; a stepdaughter, Ruth Dorsey, of Millsboro; three sisters, Viola Williams, of Nassawadox, Va., Evelyn Crawford, of Philadelphia, Pa., and Mardela (Joseph) Dardon, of Cape Charles, Va.; a special daughter, Della Mae Drew, of Frankford; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008 at Union Wesley United Methodist Church in Clarksville. Rev. Roy Russell will be the officiating pastor. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A ministry of comfort and dignity is being provided by the Lewis N.
