Ruth Ellen Banks Harris Givans, 94
DOVER - Ruth Ellen Banks Harris Givans left this earth Wednesday, June 13, 2007, while she was residing at Westminster Village, Dover. She was 94.
Mrs. Givans was born Sept. 16, 1912, daughter of Simeon (Sim) Banks and Arrena (Kenney) Banks.
She lived in the Hebron, Md., area most of her life. She loved her family, her friends, her home, and until later years, her garden.
She worked at the Banks pants factory and at the Hebron school in the cafeteria, but her most important job was homemaker.
She married Claude Monroe Harris on Sept. 22, 1934, and he passed away Oct. 6, 1957. Their children included a son, James Lee Harris who died Nov. 18, 2002; his previous wife, Betty Latourney and Bill; and a daughter, Sue Kozlowski of Viola and her husband, Fred. He married Lloyd "Scrapple" Givans on Sept. 6, 1961, and he passed away May 14, 1974.
Her oldest grandson is James David Mills and his wife, Kaye of Jacksonville, Ark.; their children include Shawn Buchman, Sheri Simpson and Shannon Greenwood. They have five grandchildren Joseph Lee Harris and his wife, Landra of Mardela Springs, Md. Their children are Luke and Logan Harris. Her third grandson is Duane and his wife, Martha of Abeline, Texas. Their children are Andrew and Elizabeth; and a great-grandson, Jeremiah. Her fourth grandson is Thomas Mills and his wife, Susan of Green Castle, Pa. Their children are Blake and Taylor. Her youngest grandson is Jeff Harris and his fiancee, Teresa McAllister of Hebron and their daughter, Alexandra (Lexi) Harris.
She was preceeded in death by her siblings, Ada Banks Jenkins, Walter Banks (and Gertrude), Bernice Groton (and Wallace), Eula Overton Hill (Levin Overton and Ed Hill), Margaret Brenner (and Paul), Harry Banks (and Mildred). She is survived by six nieces and a nephew.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday in Holloway Funeral Home where friends may call one hour earlier.
Pastor Bill Cropper of St. Paul"s U.M. Church of Hebron will officiate.
Burial will be Monday in Parsons Cemetery, Salisbury.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Delaware Hospice Towne Center, Suite 2R, 111 W. Loockerman St., Dover, DE 19901.
