Ruth Elizabeth Lockwood

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Ruth Elizabeth Lockwood, of Chestertown, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at her home surrounded by her family. She was 83. Ruth E. Lockwood was born Jan. 3, 1928, in Kent Island, Md., and was raised by Bradford and Lillian Holden in McGinnes Corner on the Holden family farm. Mrs. Lockwood spent most of her life as a homemaker and lived and raised all of her children in the same house for 60 years. She loved to spoil her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Lockwood; and her daughter, Kim Dee Manley. She is survived by four daughters, Joan Dale Cannon of New Castle, Del., Kathy Crew of Chestertown, Penny Lockwood of Chestertown, and Jill DeMoss of Barclay; three sons, George L. Lockwood of North Carolina, Edward D. Lockwood of Crumpton, Jay J. Lockwood of Crumpton; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, in Crumpton Cemetery, Crumpton. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to Hospice of Queen Anne's 255 Comet Drive, Centreville, MD 21617. Arrangements by Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 Cypress St., Millington. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.fhnfuneralhome.com.
