DENTON, Md. - Ruth Chambers Heitmuller of Denton, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at the Memorial Hospital in Easton. She was 91 years old. Born in Baltimore, on March 22, 1919, Mrs. Heitmuller was the daughter of the late Gustav R. H. Surendorf and Catherine Elizabeth Butler Surendorf. Mrs. Chamber's first husband, Marvin E. (Tommy) Chambers, whom she married on March 18, 1945, died on August 9, 1978. Her second husband, Ralph H. Heitmuller, whom she married on March 28, 1981, died on Nov. 13, 2003. Mrs. Heitmuller was a graduate of Caroline High school in Denton and then graduated from Strayer's Business College. When President Roosevelt visited Denton on Sept. 5, 1938, Mrs. Heitmuller attended the luncheon held for the President on the porch of the T. Alan Goldsboro House. In April of 1939, she became the first employee of the Rural Electrification Association (R.E.A., now known as Choptank Electric) in Denton. She retired in March of 1981 as the Manager of Staff Management for Choptank Electric. She was a member of the Caroline Chapter #62 Order of the Eastern Star and the Easton Memorial Auxiliary Denton Unit. She was a Charter Member and present member of the Caroline Country Club. She was an avid bridge player, reader, and golfer. She loved to travel and her last big trip was to Las Vegas where she will be remembered by all who met her. Mrs. Heitmuller is survived by one son, Thomas S. Chambers and his wife Susan of Denton; a step-daughter, Ruth E. Spann and her husband William of Baltimore; a step-son, Lawrence G. Heitmuller and his wife Amy of Delta, Pa.; five step grandchildren; nine step-great grandchildren; and several nieces. In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Heitmuller is preceded in death by a sister, Anna West, and a nephew. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 100 S. Fifth Ave., Denton, MD21629. There will be a viewing/visitation from 5 until 7 p.m. on Monday evening at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second St. in Denton, where an Eastern Star Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. The interment will be in the Denton Cemetery.
