BETHEL - Rudolph B. Hastings, age 92, a lifetime resident of Bethel, passed away on March 14, 2011, at Nanticoke Hospital, Seaford. Rudolph was born in Bethel, son of the late Harley G. and Minnie Massey Hastings. Mr. Hastings graduated from Laurel High School and Goldey Beacom College. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 44th Infantry Division of the 114th Regiment. Returning home in 1945, he founded H and H Brand Farms and Jeff's Greenhouses in Bethel. He was a member of Sailors Bethel United Methodist Church, the Bethel Historical Society, Laurel Lions Club and Laurel Civic Club. Mr. Hastings also served the Laurel School District and Bethel School District where he was a School Board Member and past president. He was a member of the Laurel Grain, a 33rd Degree Mason in which he was a 50-year member of Hope Lodge #4 of Laurel and a 50-year member of American Legion Post #19 of Laurel. Mr. Hastings was a former member of Seaford Golf and C.C. and Sussex Pines C.C. Mr. Hastings is survived by his son, Jeff Hastings and wife Kim of Bethel; daughters, Donna Phillips of Rehoboth Beach, Susan Brown and husband Lee Brown of East Longmeadow, Mass., Holly Malone and husband Bill Malone of Dover; and a sister, Iris H. Robinson of Fairfax, Va.; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a niece also survive him. In addition to his parents, his wife Marian Prettyman Hastings preceded him in death. A Graveside Service will be held in the Sailors Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Main Street, Bethel, on Sunday, March 20, 2011, at 3 p.m. Pastor Bill Nack will officiate.
