Viola – Roy L. Hurd, of Viola, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at Delaware Hospice Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Dover, to Cornelius (Hurdy) and Margaret Hurd of Viola. Roy went to Lake Forest High School and worked as a roofer most of his life. Roy liked to be outside hunting, fishing, crabbing, clamming, being on the boat, gardening, riding the tractor, and tinkering in the garage with family to fix things. Everyone who knew him was touched by his fun, happy, loving, and carefree personality. He will be sadly missed by all. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Floyd and Edith Allen, Arthur and Anna Hurd; father, Cornelius Hurd; niece, Wanda K. Wootten (Walls); sister-in-Law, Pamela J. Hurd; and brother-in-law, Carl Steele. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Hurd who took care of him while he was ill; daughter, Elizabeth Hurd-Nichols (Kaitlyn); sisters, Patricia Walls (Kenneth), Sharon Givens (Robert), and Bonnie Berry; and brothers, Johnny Hurd and Roger Hurd (Phyllis); and many nieces and nephews. Service will be 1 p.m. with viewing two hours prior on Wednesday, January 6, 2015 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming, Ave, Wyoming. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington. Letters of condolences can be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com
