Rose Marie (Lloyd) Spence, of Ocean View, DE, passed away during the early morning hours of Friday, October 22nd, 2021 after a peaceful day at home surrounded by her loving husband and family.
Born in Wilmington, DE in March of 1943, she was the daughter of Mary and Archie Lloyd. "Rosie", as she was known by many relatives, was raised in her early years by her Grandparents Maria and Matteo Sarra, Aunt Carmella and Uncle Michael Vassalotti, and Aunt Margaret and Uncle Tony Fiorelli. She treasured being a member of a large Italian family and saw her beloved cousins Josie, Tony, Flossie, Connie, Billy, and Ricky as sisters and brothers. She attended P.S. DuPont High School, and as a student there worked as an Nurse's Assistant at Riverside Hospital. Rosie loved dancing and music, writing songs and poetry, and painting, drawing, and traveling.. She gave her heart and soul to her family, and was the best mother anyone could ever ask for.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James; and by her children, Dr. James H. Spence (Michele) of Adrian, MI, Debra Zistl (John) of Hartly, DE, and Jacqualynn Mitchell (Martin) of Newark, DE. She is also survived by her 4 grandchildren: Zachary Zistl, Daphne Siwajek-Spence, Christopher Mitchell and Benjamin Mitchell.
We would like to extend a special Thank You to all of the family and friends who offered their prayers and support during this difficult time. Thank you also to all of the hospice workers who made countless visits to the home offering their guidance and support.
Condolences can be sent to www.melsonfuneralservices.com. Interment will be private; however the Celebration of Life for Rose Marie Spence will be held on November 27th, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, please direct donations in her memory to James Farm Ecological Preserve, 39375 Inlet Rd., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
