DOVER - Rosalynn B. "Moie" Lomax of Dover departed this life on Wednesday June 20, 2007 at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital after a short illness. She was 94.
Mrs. Lomax was born Dec. 12, 1912, in Woodside, daughter of the late Alcade and Frances Baynard.
She was married to the late Mitchell "Pop" Lomax for 45 years.
Mrs. Lomax attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and completed the 10th grade at Delaware State College High School. She furthered her education in Philadelphia.
While living in Delaware she worked for the public school district as a main food and pastry cook in the school cafeteria.
Mrs. Lomax attended the University of Delaware during the summer months to enhance her cooking skills. She retired from the state in 1975. She was later employed as a cook at Wesley College, the Mount Zion AME Church Day Care Center and the Capitol Green Day Care Center, all in Dover.
As a young woman she was a member of Union Baptist Church until she later joined Calvary Baptist Church in the 1970s. She served on the senior usher board.
Mrs. Lomax loved to go fishing, work on puzzles, draw, crochet and bake. During her quiet time, she loved to read the Bible.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six sisters and five brothers.
She leaves to cherish her memory two children; a daughter, Gladys Ethel Marie Olivia Carroll and a son, Mitchell Reginald Lomax, both of Dover; three grandchildren, Jeremiah E. Carroll of Smyrna, Cynthia Rosalynn Clark of Dover and Yvonne Annette Lomax of Dover; four great-grandchildren, Melissa Onley of Exmore, Va., Kevin Clark of Appomattox, Va., Tammy Clark and Amanda Carroll, both of Dover; two adopted grandsons, Aaron and Andrew Bratten, both of Dover who she helped raise; a special niece, Ailene Collins of Wilmington who she raised; two special friends, Mrs. Alice Dailey and Mrs. Marie Montgomery; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be noon Saturday in Calvary Baptist Church, Del. 8, Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier.
