Ronald L. Marcum, 58

DOVER - Ronald L. Marcum, of Dover, passed away on Sunday July 12, 2009. He was 58. Ron was born on July 14, 1950, in Delbarton, W.Va., and moved to Delaware with his family as a teen. He attended Dover High School. Ron served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam in the late 1960's where he was wounded and honorably discharged. After working at Anchor Motor Freight, Newark, hauling cars for several years, he wanted a career where he could be at home to watch his daughters grow. He than began his own contracting and remodeling business, Marcum Contracting, which he ran for over seventeen years. Ronnie lived his life to the fullest, enjoying his work, his friends, and his family. He took such pride in the work he did and built up a very respected reputation in the Smyrna area. He was a very social person and enjoyed being around his friends and telling tales, but it was his family that was most important to him and who will miss him every day. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Alma Marcum. Ronnie left behind his beloved wife of 36 years, Lynn L. Marcum; his two daughters, whom he loved and was so proud of, Jaime Marcum of Winterville, N.C., and Jennifer Surles of Greenville, N.C.; the little 5 year old princess who had him wrapped around her little finger, his granddaughter, Caitlyn Surles; and two brothers, Donald Marcum of Dover; and Jerry Marcum of Felton. Services will be noon Thursday, July 16, at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Ronald McDonald House, 1901 Rockland Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803.
