Roland Foreman

DOVER - Roland Foreman Sr., of Dover, went home to be with the Lord on April 4, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Roland was born on Aug. 28, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pa. to the late Joseph Clark Green and Eva Foreman Green. He was also preceded in death by his brother, and seven brothers' in law. Roland was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System, and graduated from Simon Gratz High School. In 1960, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, at the age of 18. Roland had an accomplished career as a Materials Facilities Specialist. He served in Vietnam, and was awarded numerous medals including the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a man of honor and valor, and made sure to instill these traits in his children and grandchildren. After 26 years of dedicated service, Roland retired as a Master Sergeant, from Plattsburgh AFB, N.Y. After retirement, he accepted a position in Security at Delaware State University, retiring from DSU after 14 years. At the age of 62, Roland accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. Ronnie, as he was affectionately known, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed going to the casino, playing dominos, and eating some of his favorite foods; steak, lobster, and shrimp. He was a devoted and hard-working man, who took great care of his family, and cherished spending time with them. Roland married Helen Tull on Nov. 24, 1962. They were blessed with 52 years together. In addition to his wife Helen, he leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Roland Foreman Jr. (Carlette); daughter, Roxanne Foreman-Bright (John); six grandchildren, Starlette Jean (Hayward), Ronesha Boneparte (Larry), Margaret Foreman, Shantah Providence, Veronica Foreman, and Roland Foreman III; six great-grandchildren, Kalil Foreman-Council, Makayla Cusack, Micah Jean, Malasia Foreman, Malachi Jean, and Imani Jean; siblings, Gwen, Jeanette, Shirley, Janie (Tony), Joseph (Veronica) and Cecilia; sister, Ella Mae Pugh; his Aunt Lorraine; special devoted friends Charles Newman, Mr. and Mrs. Eurial Davis, and Mr. and Mrs. Freddy Thompson; special adopted daughter Brittney, who was also his nurse; a host of nieces and nephews; and all the friends who touched his life throughout the years. The family also wishes to express gratitude to CFT Ambulance Services, and Greentree Dialysis Center for their care and support during this difficult time. A Homegoing Service with full military honors will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2015, at Whatcoat United Methodist Church, 341 Saulsbury Road Dover, Delaware 19904. Friends may view from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. Committal Services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2015 at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Delaware.
