SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Robert Walder Ashworth, born Nov. 13, 1923, in Lawrence, Mass., died March 17, 2009, in Sacramento. He was married to Marjorie Remley Ashworth (now deceased) for over 50 years. Mr. Ashworth is survived by three children, Robert W. Ashworth, Susan E. Ashworth, and Richard L. Ashworth; daughter-in-law, Joanne Cannone Ashworth; three grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Ashworth Sternberg; two brothers, David Ashworth, and Fred Ashworth; and a host of beloved relatives and friends. Robert was a 1941 graduate of P.S. Dupont H.S. in Wilmington, Del., and a 1948 graduate of the University of Delaware in Newark, Del., with an Engineering Degree. He was a World War II military veteran army air corps in the European Theater, B-26 Marauder Pilot. Mr. Ashworth was a longtime employee at Campbell Soup Company in Sacramento, and Camden, N.J. He was a member of Sacramento Chapter Sons in Retirement. He loved playing golf, reading history, traveling, watching football and baseball, participating in family activities and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed. Visitation will be held at Nicolett, Culjis, and Herberger Funeral Home, 5401 Folsom Blvd. on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial Services will be held at the Fremont Presbyterian Church, 5770 Carlson Drive on Thursday at noon followed by the interment at Sacramento Valley V.A. National Cemetery in Dixon at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to B-26 Marauder Historical Society, 3900 E. Timrod St., Tucson, AZ 85711-4170.
