DOVER - Robert W. Barmer Sr., of Dover, died March 19, 2009, at his home with his wife and children by his side. He was 70. He was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, to the late John Clement and Laura Mae Barmer. Robert retired from the U.S. Air Force as Master Sgt. After his stint in the Air Force he worked for Inland Express. He was a member of American Legion of Harrington and Harrington Moose Lodge. He enjoyed going camping, bowling, dancing and fishing. He had a very special love for his wife Karen. He was very devoted to her and made the children promise to look after her. Being family oriented he took great pride in his children and their accomplishments. With Robert you always knew what he was thinking because he had his opinion and would let you know what it was. He enjoyed making others laugh and enjoyed picking on his favorite sister-in-law, Kitty Dare. Robert will be missed by all those who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Karen Sue Barmer; two sons, Mark Barmer of Colorado, and Robert Wayne Barmer Jr. of Felton; and two daughters, Sherrie Blackburn of Massachessetts and Amy Barmer and fiancé Jason Johnson of Dover. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, Charles, Jack, and Audrey. Funeral Services will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 23, in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Interment will be private. The family requests donations to be made to the Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901.
