ROCK HALL, Md. - Robert Stevens Yerkie, 81. of Rock Hall, died Dec. 25, 2010, in his home. Robert was born in Chester, Pa., on June 10, 1929, son of the late Herman R. and Viola Naomi Stevens Yerkie. He was raised in Rock Hall and as a young man enlisted with the U.S. Army serving as a SSGT on the front lines during the Korean War. He was a carpenter by trade and a 50 year member of Local 626 in New Castle County, DE. In 1978 he and his wife moved to Florida where he built condominiums until returning to Rock Hall in 1985 where he continued building homes in the area until his retirement in 1994. Bob was a member and past commander of the Sgt. Preston Ashley American Legion Post 228 in Rock Hall and a past member of the VFW and their 40 & 8. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Yerkie. Robert is survived by his wife of 61 years, M. Fay Boulter Yerkie; four sons, Gary S. Yerkie and his wife Candy of Strasburg, Va., J. Preston Yerkie, Robert L. Yerkie and his wife Gail, and Timothy L. Yerkie and his wife Laurie all of Rock Hall; a sister, Janet Yerkie Stevens of Hurlock; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 29 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in his residence, 5086 Skinners Neck Rd. Rock Hall. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Memorials may be offered to the Rock Hall Vol. Fire, Co, Raum Chapel Church or the Sgt.
