S. Collins, 89 CAMDEN - Ret. Lt. Col. Robert S. Collins, of Camden, died Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Kent General Hospital. He was 89. Mr. Collins was born Aug. 18, 1922, in Flint, Mich., to the late Victor and Beatrice Collins. He served in the United States Air Force as a bomber pilot serving his country in World War II flying B-17s, Korea flying B29s. He Flew B-47s, the first nuclear jet bombers, with the Strategic Air Command during the Cold War. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam before retiring in 1970 after 27 years of service. After his retirement from the military he was a manager at WSFS Bank in Prices Corner and Dover. Mr. Collins enjoyed his family, taking long walks with Mommom and their pets. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid photographer and filled many family albums. He videoed every wrestling match his grandchildren participated in from kindergarten through college. He enjoyed reading and listening to books on tape. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene in 2009; and son, Robert S. Collins II. He is survived by his sons, Geary W. Collins and his wife Winnie of Dover, and David L. Collins and his wife Emily of Melbourne, Fla.; grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Brian, Hollis, Grace, Stuart and Hanna Collins, Chellie and Marni; great-grandchildren, Brianne, Torah, Olivia and Rylie; daughters-in-law, Jeannie Collins of Middletown, and Judi Collins of Georgia. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, March 29, 2012, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to The Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934. Letters of condolence may be sent, and the guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
