Robert Odell Elliott, 68

EASTON, Md. - Robert Odell Elliott, the son of the late Rena and Howard Elliott, departed this life Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at Easton Memorial Hospital. He was 68.

Robert, better known as "Jitty," was born May 17, 1939, in Cordtown. There he began his education, later graduating from Mace's Lane High School in 1958.

He was employed by several businesses such as I.L. Leonard Canning Factory, Chun King, R.J. Reynolds, The Barrell Co., Black & Decker and Nabisco.

On Oct. 18, 1980, Robert was joined in holy matrimony to Mary Ennels.

He became a member of Union Chapel A.M.E. Church at an early age. While at Union Chapel he shared his gift of lifting up the name of Jesus through songs and he was a trustee of the church. He received a certificate as Man of the Year from the annual conference.

Robert was a member and then manager of the Sensational Royal Lights for more than 50 years. He was truly dedicated and concerned about the well being of this quartet. Many times Robert went beyond what was required to keep this quartet together. He expended his services beyond the call of duty.

One of his favorite songs was, "Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus." He loved to use his lead, tenor and fifth lead voice to lift up the name of Jesus.

One of Robert's greatest concerns was that someone would keep the family together. He would often say, "I do not care who does it but someone needs to do it."

Left to share in his loving memories are his wife, Mary Elliott; daughters, Sharon Chester (Darnell), Beverly and Charmaine Elliott; a son, Kareem Elliott; a stepson, John Ferguson Jr.; grandchildren, Armanda and Amina Elliott, KaRon and Tyron Lake and John Ferguson III; four brothers, Randolph Elliott (Doretha) of Annapolis, Embry Elliott of Upper Marlboro, Palestine Elliott (Mary) of Odenton and Frederick Elliott (Constance) of Cambridge; a sister, the Rev. Marvel Travis (Kenneth) of Cambridge; sisters in-law, Helen Jones (Howard), Donnessa Castro Bey and Shirley Campbell; brothers in-law, Edward Ennels, Tyrone Ennels (Carolyn), Jerome Ennels (Peggy), Kenneth Ennels (Linda) and James Ennels; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cambridge South Dorchester High School, Cambridge Beltway. Interment will follow in Cordtown Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Henry Funeral Home, 510 Washington St., Cambridge.
