CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Robert A. Adams of Chestertown, formerly of Bronx, N.Y., died Monday, April 16, 2007, in his son's home. He was 88.

Mr. Adams was born Aug. 7, 1918, in New York City, son of the late Robert and Mary Hilliard Adams.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the European Theatre.

Mr. Adams was employed by the New York City Transit Authority, working for the 3rd Rail Subway maintenance for 39 years, retiring in 1988.

He was a member of Local 100 TWEU.

In 1992 Mr. Adams moved to Langhorne, Pa., with his son, and in 2002 they moved to Chestertown.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Catherine V. Sullivan Adams; and a sister, Marie Adams.

He is survived by his son, Robert G. Adams and his wife, Catherine of Chestertown; his daughter, Marie Ann Browne and her husband, Rodney of Havre de Grace; and four grandsons, Michael Adams, Kevin Browne, Adam Browne and Jason Browne.

A funeral service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday in Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Burial with military honors will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y.

Memorials contributions may be offered to the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Co.; or Kent Center Supported Employment fund c/o the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, MD 21635.
