KENNEDYVILLE, Md. - Richard W. Pomeroy, of Kennedyville, died Feb. 1, 2007, in Chester River Hospital Center, Chestertown. He was 72.

Mr. Pomeroy was born Aug. 21, 1934, in San Diego, son of the late John F. and Emma Belle Sotier Pomeroy.

He was a graduate of Hoover High School, where he was active in varsity basketball and baseball, and was student body president.

He received a bachelor of arts from San Diego State University, played sports and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.

Mr. Pomeroy served in the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, Calif.

He moved to Cherry Hill, N.J. and worked for the Moorestown Friends School for 18 years. In 1974 he and his wife began boating on the Sassafras River and in 1987 moved to Kentmore Park.

Mr. Pomeroy was an active member of Hope Fellowship Church, where he served on the Advisory Board, taught adult Sunday school and sang in the choir. He served as chaplain at Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital and was a hospice volunteer. He had a long time ministry at the Whitsett Center, Chestertown.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Pomeroy.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sarah Jo "Jody" (Wulbern) Pomeroy; a son, Bradley Pomeroy of Cherry Hill; a daughter and a son-in-law, Linda and Joseph Giardinelli of Cherry Hill; a brother, Jim Fox of California; two sisters, Louise Wetzell of California and Mary Ann Noriega of Arizona; and three grandchildren, Rachel Giardinelli, Jessica Giardinelli and Gideon Giardinelli.

Funeral services will be noon today in Hope Fellowship Church, Chestertown, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Burial will be in Shrewsbury Cemetery, Kennedyville.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Chester River Home Care and Hospice, 6602 Church Hill Road, Chestertown, MD 21620.
