Richard L. Hayes

MILFORD - Richard L. Hayes, Sr. passed away on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford surrounded by his family.
He was born on Jan. 19, 1932 in Binghamton, N.Y. to the late Leon and Esther Miller Hayes.
Richard owned and operated Richard L. Hayes Auto Salvage in Greenwood for 35 years from 1958 to 1993. He later worked for Hertrich's Fleet Service in Milford for 13 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1955.
Richard was a member of Greenwood VFW Post # 7478. He was a member of Harrington Baptist Church where he served as a trustee for several years.
Richard enjoyed going to restaurants to drink coffee and talk with his friends.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Rifenburg Hayes of 56 years; children, Debra Hayes, Richard L. (Terri) Hayes Jr., Bryan K. Hayes (Janet), and Randall A. Hayes; grandchildren, Todd, Brenda (Joe), Amanda (Brandon), Amber, Megan (TJ), Leah, Rebekah, Matthew, Karey Anne, and Hunter; great grandchildren, Joey, Tyler, Damien, Maddie, Bella, Jake; his siblings, Robert Hayes (Bea) Hamburg, Pa., Harold Hayes (Maryann) Conklin, N.Y., Kenneth Hayes (Susan) Kirkwood, N.Y., Ruth Miller Binghamton, N.Y., Susan Taylor (Kevin) Binghamton, N.Y., Linda Winter (Bruce) San Antonio, Texas, Harriet Schoendorf Bell Chase, La., and Marion Hudgins Kenner, La.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Milford, 6062 Old Shawnee Rd, Milford, DE 19963, family and friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m.
Interment will be held at Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Delaware Hospice Center 100 Patriots Way, Milford, De 19963. In memory of Richard L.Hayes, Sr.
Arrangements are handled by Fleischauer Funeral Home, Greenwood.
