Richard Freer

DOVER - Richard Freer of Dover, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016. He was 64. Richard was born September 18, 1951 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Lois (Hayn) Ivin and the late Charles Freer. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Kentucky Wesleyan College. Mr. Freer worked as an instructor at Owensboro Business College for ten years before moving to Dover in 1984. He worked for 25 years for Chesapeake Utilities as an Accountant. Mr. Freer was an active member, board member and coach with Dover Little League for 20 years. He was also instrumental in setting up "Field of Dreams" fields in Schutte Park. Mr. Freer loved all sports especially baseball and the St. Louis Cardinals, and enjoyed listening to 70's rock music. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Bill York; and his step-father, Boulton Ivin. He is survived by his mother, Lois Ivin of Lancaster, Pa.; his loving wife of 40 years, Connie (York) Freer of Dover; children, Derek Freer and his wife Jennifer of Edmond, Okla., Erin Gavin and her husband Thomas of Newark, and Lindsey Downer and her husband Christopher of Milton; brother, Michael Freer of Virginia Beach, Va.; sisters, Barbara Kozczynski and her husband Stan of Hummelstown, Pa. and Donna Souren and her husband David of Martinsville, N.J.; grandchildren, Jacob, Haley, Elizabeth, Dalton and Benjamin; mother-in-law, Bonnie York of Tell City, Ind.; sister and brother-in-law, Terri and Rick Greulich of Tell City, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 6 p.m., Friday, May 6, 2016 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 209 S. State St., Dover, DE 19901. Friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at torbertfuneral.com.
