Centreville - Richard Earl Dixon, Sr. died on Jan. 5, 2015 at Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Dover, Del. on June 27, 1926 the son of the late Sam and Goldie Truitt Dixon. He was educated at Dover High School, where he received a Gold Medal from the President of the United States at Dover Air Force Base. He married Jane Swan Dixon on Aug. 31, 1948. Mr. Dixon worked for the Kennersley Farm for one year and then went to work managing and working Meadowbrook Farm in Centreville, Md. for Jackson R. Collins in 1950. He eventually bought the farms in 1978. Mr. Dixon trained and raced Standardbreds along with his son, Ronnie. He also enjoyed hunting. He was a member of the United States Trotters Association, the Queen Anne's County Farm Bureau, and the Centreville Ruritan's. He is survived by his sons: Richard Dixon of Chestertown, Md. and Ronald L. Dixon of Dover, Del.; a daughter, Goldie Garner of Centreville, Md.; two sisters, Edna Vaughn and Ruth Ann Kemp; four grandchildren, Shana Corder, Ronnie L. Dixon, Jr., Richard E. Dixon III, and Ryan E. Dixon, twelve great grandchildren, a nephew, Claude Hall of Centreville, Md. and a niece, Donna Herr of Chestertown, Md. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a daughter: Sharon Jean Dixon; brothers, Albert "Dick" Dixon, Millard "Bud" Dixon, and Sam Dixon along with sisters, Dorothy Webb, Marguerite Argo and Catherine Harper. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home - Centreville, Md., where relatives and friends may call two hours prior (9 to 11a.m). Interment will be in Chesterfield Cemetery in Centreville, Md., following the service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.fhnfuneralhome.com.
