Rev. Newell W. Reed

Rev. Newell W. Reed, 91 SYLVANIA, Ohio - Rev. Newell W. Reed, 91, passed away to heaven on June 14, 2010. He was born to Jehu M. Reed, Jr. and Rose (Conner) Reed in the historic Reed Place near Frederica, Del., on June 20, 1918. He pastured churches for 67 years in Maryland and Pennsylvania, with his wife, Elizabeth (Thompson) Reed, in the Wesleyan Church and Holden's Chapel. He lived with his daughter, Janet (Reed) Bradley in Sylvania, at the time of his death following a stroke. He wrote a Reed Family history, which can be found in the Delaware State Archives in Dover, Del., where he lived for most of his retired years. He was a wonderful Christian man who lived his life to help others. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; his brother, Thomas Reed; and a grandson, Greg Bradley. He is survived by his daughter, Janet; a granddaughter, Karen Bradley Rhinehart of San Dimas, Calif.; and a niece, Rose Ann Reed of Milton, Del. Interment will take place at Barratts Chapel near Frederica, Del., on Aug. 2, 2010. Friends are welcome to gather and share memories in the Chapel at 10 a.m. and attend the graveside ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Paul Dieter will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Denton Wesleyan Camp, Denton, MD 21629. Arrangements handled by Berry-Short Funeral Home, Felton, Del.
