Rev. Eugene Bartlett Roberts

Eugene Bartlett Roberts, 80

EASTON, Md. - The Rev. Eugene Bartlett Roberts, of Easton, departed this life Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at the Hospice House, Easton, following a short illness. He was 80.

Born Sept. 1, 1927, he was the son of the late Jeanette Roberts and Bartlett Roberts.

Mr. Roberts received his formal education in the public schools of Talbot County.

He was a taxi driver, employed at the Talbot County Board of Education, and retired after 23 years of service from SunTrust Bank, formerly known as Loyola Federal Savings and Loan in Easton.

Mr. Roberts met Martina Virginia Brown, the queen of his life, and they were joined in holy matrimony June 21, 1948. For 59 years, they cherished loving and lasting memories.

He was known by his grandchildren as "Pop," and "Uncle Gene" to his nieces and nephews.

Mr. Roberts was certified so that after a satisfactory relation of his Christian experience, he was called to the ministry and view of Bible doctrine.

He was publicly ordained to the work of The Gospel Ministry on July 30, 1960, by a council of six Baptist churches, composed of ministries and messengers from Baptist churches convened at the call of the Union Baptist Church in Easton,

He was under the leadership of Elder Agnes Claggett at Mt. Pishgah Holy Church in Easton.

"Pop" enjoyed his grandchildren, traveling, collecting bells and yard sales.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Wellington and James Roberts; one sister, Corrine (Charles) Moss; and one brother-in-law, David White.

To cherish his loving memory, he leaves his wife; five children, Audrey of Ridgely, Wayne and his wife Aundra of Salisbury, Sidney of Trappe, Wellington and Rev. Curtis Roberts Sr., both of Easton; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one godson, Ju'wan Gill; two brothers, Norman Roberts and Dewey and his wife Jackie Roberts, all of Easton; brothers-in-law, Donald and his wife Eloise Brown, Rev. Robert M. and his wife Violece Brown, and James and his wife Leola Brown; sisters-in-law, Eva White, and Nancy and her husband James Jenkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be noon Thursday in the Union Baptist Church, Easton, where friends may call two hours prior.

Interment will be in the Maryland Veteran's Cemetery, Beulah.

Arrangements are being handled by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Easton.
