Rehoboth Beach students awarded in fire prevention contest

Posted

REHOBOTH BEACH — The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Co. visits students each October to provide education on fire prevention.

In addition, students create posters (K-3) or essays (grades four-eight) on fire safety. The submissions are then passed to fire prevention committees in the county and state for another tier of awards.

At the Sussex County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association awards program Nov. 22 at the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department, three Rehoboth Beach Elementary School students were honored for their creativity and fire prevention awareness:

  • Third place for kindergarten — Bennett Bekesha created a poster on three things in the home that will burn you.
  • Third place for third grade — Rowan Rosero created a poster on how to develop a home fire escape plan.
  • Third place for fifth grade — Daxton Napolitano wrote an essay on fire safety in the kitchen.
