DOVER - Regina Mae Richards, age 87, departed this life on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011. She was the only daughter of four brothers born to the late Ludie and Joanna Watson on April 13, 1924, in Hartly. She was the wife of the late James Richards (Susie). Regina was also preceded in death by her four brothers and one daughter. She loved her Emmanuel church and church family and often referred to the location of her home church as "Holy Ground". Her favorite scripture was Psalms 121 which she wrote on her heart and could quote it in its entirely long after her reading sight failed. She as a loyal and faithful member of her church for many years where she served as Protem of the Steward Board, President of the Pastor's Aid Society, Member of the Missionary Society, Member of the Commission of Stewardship and Finance, and President of the Culinary Committee she served faithfully until her health and strength failed her in the late 1980's. Her best cousin was Margaret Cammile, and her best friend was Rebecca Benson. She was an outstanding mother and grandmother and was adored by each of them. She will be greatly missed; Regina was quite a lady and was always the essence of the name Mommy. Left to mourn the loss of her sweet, caring, giving, wise, strong, and understanding earthly presence are her six children, two sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law, Novella Brooks, of Dover, Joanna Harrington (George) of Wilmington, Bradley Fairly Harris, and Morghen Fairley Harris, children of her late daughter Dr. Beverly Fairley Harris, Romona Dorsey of Wilminvgton, Robin Baynard (James) of Dover, Babbie Fairley of Wilmington, Isaac Fairley (Brenda) of Indianapolis, Ind.; 26 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and five great- great-grandchildren. Viewing will be Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W. Division Street, Dover, and Saturday, Dec, 10, 2011, from 9 to 11 a.m., at Emmanuel AME Church, 1755 Lockwood Chapel Road, Dover, with the service beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Emmanuel AME Church Cemetery.
