MILLSBORO - Reese E. Whitlock, age 88 of Millsboro, formerly of Wilmington, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. He was born in Kirkwood, on August 2, 1926 son of the late John Harvey and Hazel Roxanna (Sheets) Whitlock, Sr. Reese proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Navy serving during WWII. He served in both the European and Asiatic-Pacific Theaters aboard the LST530 under the command of Lieutenant Commander Anthony D. Duke, where he survived a kamikaze attack during his last tour. Reese was an auto mechanic working for Courtesy Ford in Wilmington and then he opened his own shop called Mini Detroit, before retiring in the mid-1980s. Reese was a member of AMVETS Post 22 in Millsboro and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post. He also faithfully attended the Long Neck United Methodist Church in Millsboro. Reese enjoyed socializing and playing cards with his friends and neighbors in the Pot-Nets Seaside Community where he would either ride his bike or drive his golf cart throughout the park. He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved being on the water, either fishing or crabbing. Reese was devoted to his family and will be forever remembered as a loving and caring man. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lily "Rusty" Whitlock; a daughter, Christina White; a grandson, Jerry WillemsendeBock, Jr.; a brother, John Harvey Whitlock, Jr. and two sisters, Josephine George and Marie Whitlock. He is survived by four daughters, Geraldine Hobbs, Valerie (Jerry) WillemsendeBock, Deborah (Jeff) Waugh and Roxanne Whitlock (Ray) Perry. He is also survived by a sister, Ellen Deputy; ten grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and a great great grandson. A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Rd., Millsboro. The funeral service will begin at 12 noon at the Long Neck United Methodist Church, 32051 Long Neck Rd., Millsboro. Interment will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2015 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear.
