CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Raymond Lee Walls of Chestertown died Saturday, July 7, 2007, in Chester River Hospital Center, Chestertown. He was 63.
Mr. Walls was born on Sept. 30, 1943, in Massey, son of the late Edward R. Walls and Mary Durham Walls.
He was a 1961 graduate of Chestertown High School and a 1963 graduate of Goldey Beacom School of Business.
Mr. Walls was employed by Verizon for 30 years retiring in 1995.
He was elected to the Kent County Board of Education for a six-year term in 1983, and re-elected to a second term in 1989.
He served as president of the board for five and a half years, until his disability forced his resignation in December 1990.
He was active in county youth activities, serving as a coach to the Little League football and baseball programs. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, the original Galena High School Marching Band, and Kent County Community Marching Band. He was an honorary member of Maryland Congress of P.T.A.
His interests included furniture refinishing and restoration.
He was preceded in death by a sister Mary Margaret "Peggy" Clark.
He is survived by two sons, Mark Raymond Walls of Gaithersburg and Michael Edward Walls and his wife, Denise of Elmer, N.J.; two grandchildren, Emily Hope Walls and Eric Ryan Walls; three sisters, Ann Sutton of Chestertown, Fay Miller of Earleville and Edwina Walters of Galena; and a brother, Edward Walls of Tucson, Ariz.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. on Thursday in Christ United Methodist Church, High Street Chestertown. The Rev. Karen Dize will officiate.
Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis, 11403 Cronhill Dr. Suite E, Owings Mills, MD 21117.
