Ralph W. Bailey

Smyrna - Ralph W. Bailey passed away on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015 at Kent General Hospital in Dover. Mr. Bailey was born Sept. 3, 1929 in Townsend, Del., the son of the late Wesley and Bernice Legg Bailey. He retired after many years of service for Chesapeake Utilities. Ralph was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church of Smyrna and the Historical Vintage Car Club of Delaware. He was also a member of Wednesday Sunshine and Thursday Sunshine Bowling Clubs and bowled in the Senior Olympics. Ralph was a supporter of Camp Barnes and had a music band, The Rhythm Knights, where he played the mandolin and any other string instrument that was available. He was also an avid NASCAR fan, especially Jeff Gordon and enjoyed traveling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mayretta M. Bailey; and one brother, Willis. He is survived by his loving wife, Arlene; two daughters, Mary Spicer and her husband Tom of Middletown and Belinda Kahoe and her husband James of Millsboro; two sons, Bryan Bailey and his wife Laura of Milford and Douglas Liddicoat and his wife Evelyn of Magnolia; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; three brothers, Russell, Harold and Wesley Bailey; and one sister, Kathy Biddle. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015 from 7 to 9 p.m. and again on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St. in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 12 p.m. on Thursday. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association, 200 Continental Drive, Newark, Del. 19713. Condolences may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
