Ralph Angel Figueroa

REHOBOTH BEACH - Ralph Angel Figueroa, of Rehoboth Beach, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, at Beebe Hospital. He was 88. Mr. Figueroa was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Puerto Rico to Rafael Figueroa and Carmen Lopez Figueroa. He served in the United States Air Force from 1943-1975 retiring as SMSgt after 32 years. He was a veteran of WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. After his military retirement he went to work for the State of Delaware for 20 years as head of the job placement for migrant workers, retiring in 1997. Mr. Figueroa was a member of St. Jude's Church in Lewes and former member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover. He was a member of the U.S Civil Rights Commission for 20 years and the Delaware Human Relations Commission. Mr. Figueroa grew many varieties of roses, loved all kinds of music, and traveled extensively with his wife Evelyn. Mr. Figueroa had a great sense of humor, had many stories to tell and wanted to make sure everyone remembered how handsome he was! In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ralph Figueroa, March 3, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Cardona Figueroa of Rehoboth; daughters, Dee Little and her husband Chuck, Yvonne Frankis and her husband Bill all of Rehoboth Beach, and Michelle Loewer and her husband Michael of Baltimore; daughter-in-law, Donna Figueroa of Dover; grandchildren, Joseph, Alexis, Leah, Ian, Ralphy, Ashley, Domenica, Mitchell, Peyton, Tim and Ryan; and great-grandchildren, Mason, Lachlan, Graybill, Alexia, and Ralphy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State Street, Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Heart Association or St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
