DOVER, Del. - R. Jefferson "Jeff" Reed passed away Saturday, December 18, 2021, at home with family. Jeff was born in Mobile, Alabama, the son of the late Robert H. Reed and the late Vivian D. Reed.
Jeff was a 1960 graduate of Dover High School and University of Alabama. Jeff worked for the father's business, Dover Trucking Company and later owned and expanded the business to Delmarva Trucking Company. Jeff is as a lifetime member of People's United Church of Christ and held many offices. Jeff was an avid Alabama Football fan and everywhere he went you would see him representing his crimson and white proudly. He spent over 20 plus years officiating football in the Capitol Officials Association and Delmarva Football Officials Association. During that time he made lifetime friendships and loved giving scholarships to athletes. He was past President of State Board of Education, past President and member of the Capital School District Board of Education, past long time member of Dover Rotary, member of the Bayhealth Foundation Board, lifetime Democrat and ran for Senator for the 17thSenatorial District, Delaware board member of the Agricultural Museum and loved telling history of the Reed General Store to all the students on field trips. Jeff was a long time member of Maple Dale Country Club, and a volunteer for Front Porch at the Modern Maturity Center. When his twin grandkids were born, he was an active supporter for Delaware March of Dimes. He was a proud Pop-Pop! He was a good athlete, loved the game of golf and was great at the game. He enjoyed going on cruises with his wife and friends, the beach, laughing and talking as he worked a room. He even took his last cruise on Disney Dream with his wife and family.
He was preceeded in death by his parents; and sister, Rebecca Reed.
Jeff is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judy Reed; son, Carl Reed of Williamsburg, Va.; his daughter, Wendy Reed-Ridgeway of Dover; son-in-law, Christopher J. Ridgeway; grandson Cameron (his "Ace"); granddaughter, Caroline Rebecca; brother, Bob Reed; sister-in-law, Barbara; grand dogs, Saban and Dawkins.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, December 27, 2021 in Peoples United Church of Christ, 46 South Bradford St., Dover; where family and friends may view from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to one of your favorite charities in memory of Jeff.
