DOVER - Phyllis Mae Egolf passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016 with her family by her side. She was born in Bourbon, Ind., to the late Mary (Snearly) Koontz on May 25, 1933. She graduated from Tippecanoe High School, Tippecanoe, Indiana, in 1951 where she was captain of the cheerleading squad. In addition to being a busy wife and mother, Phyllis worked in the retail field before retiring from DNREC in 1988 after 15 years as a radio dispatcher for the Enforcement Section. She and her husband, Jack, were active members of the Delaware Retreads Motorcycle Club from 1977-1991. They enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with their fellow motorcycle enthusiasts. Mrs. Egolf was also a long time member of the "Young At Heart Club" and enjoyed the company of all her dear friends and their monthly gatherings. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brothers, Ronnie and Larry. Phyllis is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jack A. Egolf; her children, Jackie S. Young and husband Marc, of Smyrna, Del., Debbie Shaffer and her husband Tom of Harrington, Del. and son, Michael A. Egolf of Dover, Del.; her grandchildren, Zara and husband Justin Kamke of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., Julia and husband JD Wood of Fairfax, Va., Laura and husband Jeremy Robbins of Milford, Del., Christopher Perry of Milford, Del. and Michael V. Egolf and his wife Alaina of Dover, Del.; her great grandchildren, Griffin Kamke and Molly Wood; her sister, Sue and husband Bill Elliot of Plymouth, Ind. and brother-in-law Max Egolf of Atwood, Ind., sister-in-law Gracie Koontz, of West Union, W.Va. as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Phyllis was a loving, caring and generous soul as well as loving wife, mother, grandmother and loyal friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Friends may call on the family Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 East Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover, Del. Service following at 12 p.m. Interment will be at Sharon Hills Memorial Park, 2928 Sharon Hill Road, Dover, Del. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the First State Animal Center and SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, Del. 19934 or charity of your choice.
