CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Philip E. Larkin, loving husband and father died June 9, 2010 at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He was born in Leesburg, Ohio, on May 27, 1930, to Mabel (Smith) and Robert Kersey Larkin. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. His basic training was at Lackland AFB (San Antonio, Texas). After finishing his training he was stationed at Fort Campbell AFB (Clarksville, Tenn.). While at Fort Campbell he received additional training at Le Tourneau University (Longview, Texas). During the war, he was stationed at Eglin AFB (FL) and Clark AFB (Philippines). He was a member of the 29th Mobile Radio Squadron - Security Service. He attained the rank of Technical Sergeant. After his honorable discharge, he attended the Ohio State University where he earned a BS (Agronomy). While at Ohio State, Phil met and married the love of his life Jane Post on Sept. 7, 1958. He is survived by his wife, Jane Post Larkin; two children, son, David and wife Charlotte Larkin of Commerce, Texas, and daughter Mary and husband Eric Meier of Fairlee, Md.; a brother, Robert S. Larkin of Leesburg, Ohio; two step-grandchildren, Jacquelyn Stauffer of Corinth, Texas, and Daniel Stauffer of Denton, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Margaret Larkin; and three children, Thomas, John, and Philip, Jr. Phil was employed in the agri-chemical division of Swift & Co.; worked for Royster Fertilizer; co-owned and operated Maryland Delaware Agronomics; sold farm equipment for Hoober, Inc. He truly enjoyed reading, visiting people (everyone was a friend), refinishing antiques, and canoeing. He was very active in civic and community endeavors. He was a member of Kent Ruritan, he earned the degree of Master Mason from the Grand Lodge of Ohio, he was a member of Rebuilding Kent County, a volunteer at the Kent County Homeless Shelter, a long time member of First United Methodist Church Chestertown and member of its' Men's Sunday School Class. He also served as a lay leader and speaker for the Methodist faith throughout Kent County. Phil volunteered countless hours with the Kent Farm Museum and the Chestertown Cemetery Board. A memorial service will be 2 p.m., Aug. 21, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church, Chestertown. Arrangements by Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Chestertown, Md.
