DOVER - Pearlie Mae Martin of Dover went home to be with the Lord on Friday Sept. 7, 2007, surrounded by her family at home.
Mrs. Martin was born Jan. 25, 1942, in Washington County, Ga., the daughter of the late Evelyn B. White and Silver Lee Blocker.
She received her education in T.J. Elder High School in Georgia.
Mrs. Martin completed her education at Vo-tech in Woodside.
She later moved to Philadelphia in 1965 where she met and married Emmit Martin Sr. with whom she moved in Delaware in 1968.
Mrs. Martin was employed at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill before becoming employed at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital in 1974.
In 1987, she became employed at Joni"s Fashions until 1995.
She was cared for and loved by all and was well known to many as "Mom Pearl" and "Aunt Pearl".
Mrs. Martin was a mother and grandmother to many.
She will be remembered by her love and kindness to everyone. She was always gracious for everything she received and was willing to share to those in need.
Mrs. Martin loved doing crossword puzzles, spending quality time with family and going to gatherings.
She started attending St. John A.U.M.P. in Woodside in 1969 until they closed the doors in 1992.
Her health hindered her in continued fellowship but her health never stopped her from praising the Lord and believing in God.
Whenever you saw "Mom Pearl" her favorite words were "I"m blessed and please pray for me."
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emmit Martin Sr.; her stepfather, Hubert Lee White; and a brother, Leotis Blocker Sr.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, E. Shalawn and Mark Tolson, Keona Martin "Kissy" of Dover; two sons, Emmit Martin Jr. "Peanut" and Demetrius Martin "Tiggy," both of Dover; one sister, Mary Coverdale of Dover; four brothers and four sisters-in-law, Nathan and Shirley Harris of Tennille, Ga., Sammie and Jeanette Blocker of Miami, Fla., Freddie and Kathy Blocker of Sandersville, Ga. and Johnnie and Penelope Harris of Dover; one uncle, Ardo Johnson of Bristol, Pa.; one aunt, Zora Lee Brown of Sandersville; 13 grandchildren; godsons, Michael Yoder of Dover and Charlie Carey of Dover; her closest friends, Minister Mary Johnson-Hicks, Ruth Riddick, both of Dover and Louise Johnson of Smyrna; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and life long friends.
Viewing will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, where friends may view two hours prior.
