Pearl Letitia (King) Hawkins MILTON - Pearl Letitia (King) Hawkins, age 88, of Milton passed away peacefully at the Milford Center, Sunday, July 18, 2010, where she convalesced for the past five years. Pearl was born March 10, 1922, daughter of the late Elmer Norton and Anna Belle "Annie" (Willey) King, and spent most of her younger years in Sussex County. In 1960, she married her second husband, the late Lee Andrew Hawkins. He was formerly of North Carolina, and had resided in Laurel. In the early 1960's, they moved to North Carolina and purchased a country store, which they operated for several years. Upon Lee's death, in 1988, Pearl returned to live in Delaware. Pearl was a hard worker and homemaker. She loved cooking big meals and did plenty of that for her family and friends. She was well known for her tasty homemade biscuits. Pearl enjoyed sewing (making quilts), canning and making preserves during the summer months. Most of all, she enjoyed the visits from her family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Pearl was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and Frank King; and a sister, Dorothy Bell. She is survived by four daughters, Sara Dennis of Milton, Helen Wilkins of Lincoln, Irene Bradley of Rockport, Texas, and Sandy Wilson, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, one step-grandson, five great-grandchildren and four sisters, Ethel Murphy of Georgetown, Alice Baker of Millsboro, Florence Headley, and Charlotte King, both of Laurel. A funeral service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, July 22, 2010, in the Chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, where friends may call after noon. Burial will be in McColley's Cemetery in Redden.
