Paul Gordon Sterling

Paul Gordon Sterling, 94

DOVER - Paul Gordon Sterling, died on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, in Bay Health, Dover. He was 94. He was born on Aug. 28, 1914, in Westbrook, Maine, son of the late Wilma (Alcorn) and Malcom Sterling, and raised in Peaks Island, Maine. He graduated from Portland High School and worked for New York Mechanical Contractor, Roland Tompkins, for 47 years. His work was piping in Paper Mills. He piped in Power Houses from Maine to the Bahamas. When he came to know the Lord in 1952 he read and studied the bible from front to back cover, and had a great reverence for God's Holy Word. He retired in 1978 and settled in Onancock, Va. on the bay, where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and crabbing for almost twenty years. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Rita R. Sterling, of Dover; his children, Richard P. Sterling, of Greenwood, S.C., William H. Sterling, of Palm Springs, Calif., Kenneth A. Sterling, of Franklin, Va., and Caroline Ennis, of Lake Carmel, N.Y.; his brother, Emery H. Sterling, of Savannah, Ga.; and his grandchildren, Paula Hermans, of Webster, Texas, Greg Sterling, of Littleton, Colo., Kenneth A. Sterling Jr., of Oxford, Miss., Melissa Minnaugh, of Shenorck, N.Y., and Patricia Walker, of Monhegan Lake, N.Y.; and his great-grandchildren, Abrey Sermons, of Webster, Texas, Teddie Sermons, of Webster, Texas, Serains Sterling, of Littleton, Colo., Sammy Sterling, of Littleton, Colo., Wyatt Sterling, of Oxford, Miss., Benjamin Sterling, of Oxford, Miss., and Derek Walker, of Shenerock, N.Y. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2009 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where the family will receive friends one hour before services. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 123, Dover, DE 19903. Letters of condolences may be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
