Patricia Louise Moyer, 55

HARRINGTON - Patricia Louise Moyer, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with diabetes. She was 55. She went peacefully in her home with her husband Johnny, and son Kevin by her side, along with other family members. Mrs. Moyer was born Oct. 10, 1953, daughter of the late Harold D. Spayd and the late Jacqueline Spayd Kaercher. She was raised in the small town of Bowers Beach where she met her husband John, at age 15 and later married at age 17, after graduating high school. She and her husband decided to start a towing business and called it "Little Heaven Towing". For many years she ran the business with John, not only dispatching calls to him, but also operating her own tow truck and taking calls herself. She was a Life Member of the Bowers Ladies Auxiliary, were she held various offices and served as President from 1997-1998. Pat was the recipient of the Jeannine Dobry Award in 1995, for her outstanding service to the Bowers Beach Ladies Auxiliary. She helped with many dinners, bingos, and various other events held at the hall. She was also one of the first women to drive the ambulance for the Bowers Fire Company. In her spare time, she was a homemaker, babysitter and ran a small catering business. She loved to cook and bake and would can her own vegetables. She also helped to raise the many children that she cared for over the years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, George W. Kaercher Jr. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, John F. Moyer Jr.; and two sons, John F. Moyer III and his wife Margo, of Harrington, and Kevin R. Moyer and his fiancé Ange Pettit, of Pa. She is also survived by her three sisters, Debbie Morris of Frederica, Lida Ann Villanueva, and Shirley Pennington of Bowers Beach; as well as eight grandchildren, Taylor N. Pettit, Karinne N. Moyer, Kallie M. Moyer, Kurt A. Moyer, Kiley M. Pettit, Cael J. Moyer, Damien R. Moyer, and Kyra J. Moyer. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will be in Barrett's Chapel, Frederica. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to one of the following: Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901; or Bowers Beach Ladies Auxiliary, 3685 Main St., Frederica, DE 19946.
