Olivia 'Candy' (Draper) Hudson, 76
HARBESON - Olivia "Candy" (Draper) Hudson of Harbeson died Monday, April 9, 2007, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 76.
Mrs. Hudson was born in Milton, daughter of the late Grover C. and Ella (Brittingham) Draper.
Along with her husband, she owned and operated Douglas C. Hudson Construction Co., and several other businesses throughout the years.
Mrs. Hudson was a member of Harbeson United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, church choir, Order of the Eastern Star in Georgetown, Coolspring Couples Club and served as secretary for the Harbeson Cemetery Corp. She was a volunteer for Coastal Hospice and numerous other organizations. Candy was treasurer of the Harbeson Extension Homemakers Club and held many other offices. As a member of the Delaware Association for Family Community Education, she was the past state president, newsletter editor/publisher and served on the national nominations board. She was also on the advisory board for the research and education center of the University of Delaware in Georgetown.
She enjoyed spending many summers at Broadkill Beach.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas C. Hudson, in 1986; and three sisters, Grace Millman, Clara Robinson and Esther Morris.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne D. and Bonnie Hudson of Milton, and Wade R. Sr. and Jackie Hudson of Milton; a daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline H. and Ray McCabe of Berlin, Md.; her fiance, Gene E. Melvin of Harbeson; a sister, Ruth Tyndall of Millsboro; four grandchildren, Wade R. "Buddy" Hudson Jr., Heather H. Leonard and her husband Charles, Holly L. Hudson and her fiance Robert Read, and Draper R. McCabe and his fiancee Sarah Massey; her step-grandchildren, Lisa Garrison and Allen Callaway; and her step-great-grandchildren, Noah Garrison and Liam Garrison. Aunt Candy was very special to all of her nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call after noon. Interment will be in Harbeson Cemetery.
