DOVER - Nelly G. Shorey passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018 at Delaware Hospice Center.
Mrs. Shorey was born, May 7, 1930 to the late Nelly Greaves and William Blunt in Centreville, Md.
She was a graduate of Centreville Highschool in 1947, and proudly attended her 70th reunion last year. Mrs. Shorey was in the Army Air Corp, and marched in uniform for the Truman Inaugural Parade. Whilst in the service, she met her husband, Arthur Shorey in California, both being in the service they moved quite a bit but ended in Dover, Delaware in 1963. Mrs. Shorey then began her second career as a civil servant for Dover AFB. She carried her position on to the Mountain Home Idaho base where she retired. Mrs. Shorey moved back to Dover in 2015, where she lived with her daughter, Ann and husband Bill.
Mrs. Shorey and her daughter Ann had an inspiring relationship. The two were nearly inseparable even when distance was a factor. As a young mother Nelly would pal around with Ann on class trips and as the two matured, so did their relationship. Traveling the country or just having small shopping trips could be an adventure with each other by their sides. Even in her last days, Ann was devotedly by her side. Aside from traveling with her daughter, Nelly enjoyed golfing and cross stitching.
Nelly was predeceased by her loving husband, Arthur Shorey in 1986. She is survived by her devoted daughter and son in law, Ann and Bill Wallace, of Dover; nieces, Nancy Kotmiar, Barbara Filman, Joanne Beavers; and nephew, Robert Blunt; and her grand dogs who she loved so very much. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Delaware Hospice for their devotion and special attention to her care.
Memorial services will be held, 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, 2018 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd. (Rt 10). Friends may gather from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to services. Interment will be held privately by the family at a later date.
Letters of condolences and guestbook may be signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
